Roger Maris and Me

White Plains native Andy Strasberg speaks about his extraordinary friendship with New York Yankee great Roger Maris. From their first meeting in 1962, through Maris’ death in 1985, Andy developed a friendship with the baseball star and became known as Maris’ Number One Fan.
Westchester Poetry SLAM Finals!
When: Wednesday May 21st, 2008 - 07:00 PM
Where: Auditorium
Join us as we celebrate our talented local poets in final competition with tonight's winners forming our official 2008 White Plains/Westchester Poetry Team. Participating finalists, who have competed in at least three Library slams throughout the year and finished in the top three at one event, should arrive promptly at 6:30 pm to register, with program starting at 7:00 pm. Our Westchester Team, sanctioned by PSI, Poetry Slam Inc., the official organization that oversees poetry slams worldwide, will compete in the National Championships to take place this summer in Madison, WI. Please spread the word to ensure a great turnout in support of our local poets. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome!

Students in grades 6 - 12 are invited to give ideas for a proposed new teen area in the Library. Additional date: June 7th at 11am. Space is limited, so please register. Refreshments served. (Separate registration for adult session same days/times in Room B.)

Westchester Poetry SLAM!

Our exciting “1st Wednesday” series continues with SLAM competition, Open Mic and guest poet, Bill MacMillan, National Slam Team Champion, featured in film SlamNation, spoken word artist extraordinaire, on tour from Worcester, MA. Please register for Open Mic or Poetry Slam at 6:30 pm & bring 2 original poems of up to 3 minutes each. Co-hosted by local poets Eric ZORK Alan and Prof. Christine Timm of WCC. Summer Poetry SLAM & Open Mic!

Join us in celebration of our 2008 White Plains/Westchester Poetry Team as they entertain and inspire in preparation for their trip to the National Slam Championships in Madison, WI in August. Audience members who wish to step up to the Open Mic or Poetry Slam should register at 6:30 pm with 2 original poems of up to 3 minutes each. Co-hosted by our favorite slammaster Eric Zork Alan.
